Tehran rejects Western accusations of overseas assassination plots as baseless
Tehran has firmly dismissed accusations from the United States and more than a dozen Western allies regarding alleged Iranian involvement in assassination and kidnapping attempts abroad. In an official statement, Iran's Foreign Ministry labeled the claims as "baseless."
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the allegations were nothing more than an effort to "divert global attention from the most pressing issue of the moment—the genocide in occupied Palestine," referring to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.
The joint Western statement accused Iran of orchestrating or attempting to carry out lethal operations against dissidents and political opponents residing overseas. While specific incidents were not detailed in the Iranian response, previous international reports have cited Iranian plots targeting individuals in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
This latest diplomatic standoff adds to the already strained relations between Tehran and the West, with tensions further fueled by the conflict in Gaza and broader geopolitical disagreements involving sanctions, nuclear negotiations, and regional security.
Iran has repeatedly denied involvement in extraterritorial operations, maintaining that such accusations serve political agendas rather than being grounded in verifiable evidence.
