Tetouan police arrest four suspects and seize 17,505 drug pills
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, police in Tetouan, Morocco, apprehended four suspects on Tuesday evening, seizing a staggering 17,505 drug pills during the operation. This enforcement action was executed in collaboration with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), highlighting the ongoing commitment of Moroccan authorities to combat organized crime.
The suspects were caught in the act as they attempted to sell the drugs. Authorities discovered the illicit pills, identified as “Rivotril,” in a vehicle used by the suspects. Rivotril, a prescription medication often misused for its narcotic effects, poses a serious public health risk when distributed illegally.
Following their arrest, the suspects were placed under judicial investigation, which is being conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor. This investigation aims to delve deeper into the criminal network, seeking to identify additional individuals involved and dismantle the entire trafficking operation.
This operation is part of Morocco’s broader strategy to tackle drug trafficking and organized crime. The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) and DGST are actively working together to prevent the smuggling and distribution of illegal substances across the nation.
Recent operations in the region further illustrate the ongoing battle against drug-related crimes. Earlier this week, police in Berkane arrested two individuals linked to psychotropic drug trafficking, including a general practitioner accused of issuing fraudulent prescriptions. In another incident, security services in Nador seized over a ton of hashish and arrested six suspects, showcasing the persistent efforts of law enforcement across northern Morocco.
