Morocco made a strong start to the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 with a convincing 2–0 victory over Comoros on Sunday evening at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. Playing in front of a large and enthusiastic home crowd, the Atlas Lions launched their continental campaign in ideal fashion.

In a lively atmosphere marked by steady rainfall, the first half remained scoreless despite Morocco’s clear territorial dominance. The hosts controlled possession and tempo but struggled to break down a well-organized Comorian defense before the break.

The breakthrough came shortly after halftime. In the 55th minute, Brahim Díaz opened the scoring with a well-placed finish inside the penalty area, beating the Comorian goalkeeper and igniting celebrations in the stands. Morocco continued to press, and their efforts were rewarded again in the 74th minute when Ayoub El-Kaabi sealed the victory with a spectacular acrobatic strike.

Comoros showed resilience throughout the match and attempted to threaten on the counterattack, but they were unable to overturn the balance against a Moroccan side that remained largely in control.

This opening win gives Morocco a strong position in the group stage and sends a clear signal to their rivals in a tournament they are hosting. At the final whistle, Moroccan supporters applauded their team, aware that tougher challenges lie ahead as the CAN continues on home soil.
