Three people missing after building collapse in Görlitz
In the city of Görlitz, located near the German-Polish border, rescue teams are continuing search operations after a residential building collapsed, leaving three people missing.
According to local police, the missing individuals may still be trapped under the rubble. The victims include two young women aged 25 and 26 of Romanian nationality, and a 47-year-old man holding German and Bulgarian citizenship.
Emergency services, supported by search dogs, are carefully combing through debris made of bricks and broken wooden beams. Authorities have chosen to avoid using heavy machinery due to concerns that damaged gas lines could trigger an explosion, making manual search operations safer.
Officials confirmed that rescue efforts are ongoing and may continue throughout the night as teams try to detect any signs of life. The cause of the collapse remains under investigation.
Initially, five people were reported missing, but two were later found safe, as they were away from the building at the time of the incident.
The city of Görlitz, known for its well-preserved historic architecture, is currently focused on emergency response as investigations continue.
