Tom Holland, the actor portraying the iconic Spider-Man, has temporarily stepped away from filming the highly anticipated Spider-Man: Brand New Day after sustaining a mild concussion. The incident occurred on Friday, September 19, during production at Leavesden Studios in Watford, North West London.

According to reports from The Daily Mail, the 29-year-old star suffered the injury after falling on set and hitting his head. Emergency services were called to the scene at 10:30 a.m., and Holland was transported to the hospital for further care. A representative from East of England Ambulance Service confirmed their involvement, stating, "An ambulance was sent to the scene, and the patient was transported to hospital for further care."

The production setback also involved another individual, reportedly a stunt double, who was also taken to the hospital in a separate ambulance.

Holland’s father, Dominic Holland, mentioned during a charity dinner in Mayfair on Sunday, September 21, that his son would be "away from filming for a while." Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Holland’s break will last several days as he recovers. The film’s producers at Sony and Marvel Studios are expected to meet to discuss adjustments to the production schedule of the £150 million project.

A new chapter for Spider-Man

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, slated for release on July 31, 2026, promises a fresh direction for the character. Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has teased that this film will showcase Tom Holland’s Peter Parker as a "proper Spider-Man," focusing on smaller, street-level challenges rather than the global-scale threats seen in previous installments.

Feige elaborated during a recent roundtable interview for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, saying, "For the first time in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man stories, we’re seeing him being by himself, dedicated to saving the city and dealing with street-level crime." He also hinted at potential crossovers with other grounded Marvel characters, further fueling fan anticipation.

Holland himself has described the film as a chance to return to the roots of the franchise. Speaking to Flip Your Wig, he said, “It’s gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It’s been such a long time that I’ve done it that it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air. And I think the fans are gonna be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

Returning cast members include Zendaya, reprising her role as Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson, and Jacob Batalon as Peter’s best friend, Ned Leeds.

Despite the setback, fans remain optimistic about the film, which has been described as a pivotal moment in redefining Spider-Man’s journey within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
