Tragedy in North Macedonia: Nightclub fire claims 51 lives
A devastating fire at a nightclub in Kocani, North Macedonia, has resulted in at least 51 fatalities and over 100 injuries, according to Interior Minister Panche Toshkovski.
The blaze broke out around 03:00 local time (02:00 GMT) on Saturday during a concert by the band DNA, when pyrotechnics ignited inside the crowded venue. Kocani, located approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Skopje, was the scene of the tragic incident. Videos circulating on social media depict the nightclub engulfed in flames, with dense smoke billowing into the night sky.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fire spread rapidly, reaching the ceiling and roof before completely consuming the building. Emergency services, including a public prosecutor from Kocani’s Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office, arrived at the scene promptly.
Authorities are still assessing the total number of casualties. The prosecutor’s office emphasized that all available resources would be mobilized to assist the Kocani prosecution in handling the crisis.
