Tragedy in the Skies: Air India Crash Victims Identified

A devastating air disaster has claimed the lives of nearly everyone aboard an Air India flight bound for London Gatwick, which crashed shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad, in western India. The airline confirmed that out of 242 passengers and crew, only one person survived the tragedy.

The flight carried 169 Indian nationals, 53 British citizens, seven Portuguese passengers, and one Canadian. Tragically, the crash also caused the deaths of at least eight residents in the Ahmedabad area, including four medical students, according to a senior health official.

Among the passengers was British survivor Vishwashkumar Ramesh, who is currently recovering in hospital.

British Families Among the Dead

Three members of the Nanabawa family from Gloucester  Akeel Nanabawa, his wife Hannaa Vorajee, and their four-year-old daughter Sara  were confirmed dead. Their loved ones expressed heartbreak over the loss, highlighting the family's generosity, kindness, and joyful spirit.

Also lost were Adam and Hasina Taju, aged 72 and 70, from London, along with their son-in-law, Altafhusen Patel, 51. The family had been returning from India when the crash occurred.

Another couple, Fiongal and Jamie Greenlaw-Meek, known for running a spiritual wellness centre in London, were also killed. A social media video posted just before boarding showed them smiling and enjoying their trip.

Javed and Mariam Syed, along with their two children, were also on board.Mrs. Syed worked at a hotel while Mrs. Syed was employed at Harrods.

Ajay Kumar Ramesh, another British national, was sitting next to his brother Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the sole survivor. His fate remains uncertain.

Indian Political and Crew Victims

Vijay Rupani, former Chief Minister of Gujarat and a BJP party leader, was also among the dead. His death was confirmed by India’s civil aviation minister.

Cabin crew member Singson was on duty during the flight. Her cousin told the BBC that she was the sole provider for her family, which includes her mother and brother.

A Community in Mourning

Raxa Modha and her two-year-old grandson Rudra, from Northamptonshire, were flying to England for a memorial. They too were among the victims. Raj Mishra, mayor of Wellingborough, extended heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.

As the investigation continues, communities across the UK and India are united in mourning those lost in one of the year’s deadliest aviation tragedies.
