Trump celebrates Diwali at White House, highlights US-India partnership
US President Donald Trump hosted Diwali celebrations at the White House, extending warm greetings to the people of India and Indian-Americans. During his remarks, Trump praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, referring to him as both a great person and a trusted friend. He emphasized the significance of US-India ties, particularly in trade and regional peace, and reflected on the symbolic meaning of the Diya’s flame, urging everyone to seek wisdom, work diligently, and express gratitude for life’s blessings.
As part of the festivities, Trump lit traditional diyas alongside senior administration officials. The event was attended by several key figures, including FBI Director Kash Patel, ODNI Director Tulsi Gabbard, White House Deputy Press Secretary Kush Desai, Indian Ambassador to the US Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor. Their presence underscored the growing role of the Indian diaspora in fostering stronger bilateral relations.
In response, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude for Trump’s warm Diwali wishes during a personal phone call. Modi later shared a message on social media, reaffirming the enduring strength of the India-US partnership. He expressed hope that the two democracies would continue to inspire the world with unity and remain steadfast in their commitment to combating terrorism.
