Trump nominates Casey Means for US Surgeon General role
U.S. President Donald Trump announced his nomination of Dr. Casey Means, a physician and health entrepreneur, as the next U.S. Surgeon General. Means, 37, is closely aligned with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s "Make America Healthy Again" initiative. She co-founded the health-tech company Levels, which helps users monitor the impact of food on their health through continuous glucose monitors. Her brother, Calley Means, was appointed as a White House adviser focusing on food policy and the influence of corporations on health.
The U.S. Surgeon General serves as the nation's leading health spokesperson, offering scientific guidance to help Americans improve their health and reduce the risks of illness and injury. Earlier, Trump had nominated Janette Nesheiwat for the role, but on Wednesday, he indicated that Nesheiwat would collaborate with Kennedy in a different capacity within the health agency.
