ISTANBUL — Turkey has issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and 36 other Israeli officials on charges of “genocide” and “crimes against humanity” linked to the war in Gaza and to the recent aid flotilla incident.

According to the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, the warrants target top Israeli figures including Defense Minister Israel Katz, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, and military chief Eyal Zamir.

The Turkish prosecutors accuse the officials of committing atrocities against civilians in Gaza and of ordering the interception of a humanitarian flotilla bound for the besieged enclave last month.

Israel immediately condemned the move.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar dismissed the warrants as a “public relations stunt” by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying that “in Erdoğan’s Turkey, the judiciary has long since become a tool for silencing political rivals and detaining journalists, judges, and mayors.”

The decision comes amid heightened tensions between Turkey and Israel, as Ankara positions itself as one of the most outspoken critics of Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
