Turkey announced on Friday that it will close its airspace to Israeli aircraft and suspend all economic ties with Israel, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The statement was delivered during an extraordinary session of the Turkish Parliament in Ankara, convened to discuss Israel’s ongoing military operations in Gaza.

Fidan declared that Turkish ports would no longer accept Israeli ships, and Turkish vessels would not be permitted to dock in Israel. “Israel has been committing genocide in Gaza for two years under the eyes of the world. No country has yet taken such a significant measure, including sanctions, against Israel,” he said.

Despite these remarks, Israeli media, including Ynet, reported that neither Israeli companies nor the Israel Airports Authority have received official notification of these measures. So far, the only destination reportedly affected by airspace restrictions is Georgia.

According to The National, Turkey has also joined a United Nations initiative backed by 52 countries, calling for an end to the supply of arms and ammunition to Israel, which Ankara says fuels the ongoing war effort in Gaza.
