A shooting following a music festival in downtown Los Angeles early Monday morning left two people dead and six others injured, according to local authorities.

Details of the incident

The shooting occurred in the warehouse district of central Los Angeles after a party linked to the festival. Police spokesperson Norma Eisenman stated that officers noticed an individual entering a building with a firearm. The suspect was detained shortly after.

Police received reports of gunfire around 1 a.m. Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered a deceased man. A woman, critically injured in the incident, later died at a hospital. Six additional victims sustained injuries of varying severity and were transported to nearby medical facilities. Their current conditions remain undisclosed.

Investigation ongoing

Authorities are actively investigating the case to identify the suspect and any potential accomplices. A significant area surrounding the crime scene was cordoned off for several hours as part of the investigation.

Rising concerns over gun violence

This incident highlights the ongoing crisis of mass shootings in the United States. Despite constitutional protections on gun ownership, growing calls for stricter firearm regulations persist.

The tragedy follows two other mass shootings last week in Nevada and New York, which together claimed at least eight lives. Data from the Gun Violence Archive, a non-governmental organization, reveals that over 250 mass shootings have occurred in the United States since the beginning of the year.
