Two police officers shot dead in station near Izmir
Two police officers were killed and another wounded on Monday in a shooting at a police station near the city of Izmir in western Turkey, according to local media reports.
Private broadcaster NTV and the IHA news agency reported that a 16-year-old teenager was taken into custody shortly after the attack. Authorities have not yet released further details on the suspect’s motives or whether others may have been involved.
The incident comes at a time of heightened political and social tension in Turkey, following recent judicial decisions that have sparked protests by opposition parties. Security has been reinforced around several police stations and public institutions in the region.
