U.S. envoy Kellogg meets with Zelensky in Kyiv amid ongoing war with Russia
U.S. envoy Keith Kellogg, who represented President Donald Trump on Ukraine matters, arrived in Kyiv on Wednesday to engage in talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky, as the ongoing conflict with Russia nears its third anniversary. This visit follows a meeting between the United States and Russia in Riyadh aimed at discussing the end of the war, though Ukraine was not included in those discussions.
Kellogg emphasized the importance of these talks, expressing that they would provide an opportunity for substantial dialogue. He highlighted that the discussions would build upon previous conversations held during the Munich Security Conference. Kellogg acknowledged Ukraine’s ongoing need for security guarantees from the U.S., which are seen as crucial to prevent further Russian aggression after a potential peace agreement.
Part of Kellogg’s mission is to listen and gather information to report back to President Trump and the U.S. team, ensuring that they make well-informed decisions. Earlier reports indicated that Zelensky postponed a planned visit to Saudi Arabia to avoid lending legitimacy to the U.S.-Russia talks held in Riyadh, which excluded Ukraine. Meanwhile, Trump dismissed concerns that Ukraine was excluded from these talks, suggesting that Kyiv could have negotiated with Russia earlier in the conflict.
