The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has summoned Israel's deputy ambassador following an unprecedented Israeli airstrike on Qatar earlier this week. The attack targeted Hamas leadership in Doha, fueling heightened regional tensions and prompting strong reactions from the international community.

UAE issues stern warning

In a statement, the UAE Foreign Affairs Ministry denounced the strike as "provocative" and "unacceptable." The ministry stressed that such actions undermine regional stability and cannot be tolerated. The Israeli deputy ambassador was informed that the attack on Doha solidifies a situation that is “unacceptable and cannot be overlooked.”

The incident has raised fears of further escalation, particularly as Qatar has played a crucial role in mediating Gaza ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas.

Diplomatic backlash

According to the Times of Israel, Qatar has formally requested that the UAE consider closing its embassy in Tel Aviv as part of a broader response to the strike. Meanwhile, Doha is preparing to host an emergency summit later this week to address the fallout from the attack.

The UN Security Council held an emergency session on Thursday to condemn the strike on Qatar and Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza. A unified statement from Security Council members, including the United States, emphasized the need for de-escalation and expressed solidarity with Qatar.

A shift in US rhetoric

The US has drawn attention for its unusually critical stance toward Israel’s actions. President Donald Trump publicly condemned the airstrike, calling it a “deplorable incident” that fails to advance Israel’s or America’s objectives in the region. Many international observers have interpreted this as a significant shift in Washington’s traditionally unwavering support for Israel.

The attack has sparked widespread concern over its implications for regional stability, especially with Qatar’s role as a mediator in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict under increasing strain.
