UK and France to present Ukraine peace plan to Donald Trump
The United Kingdom and France are collaborating with Ukraine to develop a peace plan, which will be presented to U.S. President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer confirmed on Sunday.
Speaking in an interview with the BBC ahead of a London summit on European security and the Ukraine crisis, Starmer described the initiative as "a step in the right direction." He emphasized the critical importance of securing U.S. support for any proposed ceasefire agreement in Ukraine.
"We must find a way to work together because, ultimately, we have endured three years of bloody conflict. It is now imperative to achieve a lasting peace," Starmer stated.
The London summit will bring together leaders and representatives from France, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Turkey, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania. Key international figures attending the event include NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Antonio Costa.
A spokesperson for the British Prime Minister’s office reiterated the UK’s commitment to playing a pivotal role in securing "a just and lasting peace, underpinned by robust security guarantees."
