Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his New Year address that a peace agreement aimed at ending the war with Russia is “90% ready,” while stressing that the remaining issues are the most decisive.

In a video message published on social media, Zelensky explained that the final 10% of negotiations would determine the future of peace, as well as the security of Ukraine and Europe. He emphasized that Kyiv is seeking an end to the conflict, but not at the cost of its sovereignty or long-term safety.

The Ukrainian leader underlined that any agreement must include strong security guarantees to prevent Russia from launching another military offensive in the future. According to him, a ceasefire without such guarantees would leave the country vulnerable.

Efforts led by the United States to facilitate a peace deal have so far failed to bridge key disagreements, particularly over territorial control. Russia currently occupies nearly one-fifth of Ukrainian territory, including parts of eastern Ukraine.

Zelensky also warned that Moscow’s ambitions extend beyond the Donbas region, expressing skepticism toward Russian assurances and cautioning against concessions that could undermine regional stability.
