Ukraine’s state energy operator Naftogaz announced on Friday that Russia carried out the “largest attack” to date against the country’s gas production infrastructure. According to the company, the assault involved 35 missiles and 60 drones launched overnight, severely damaging multiple facilities.

“An important part of our infrastructure has been destroyed, with some damage considered critical,” said Naftogaz CEO Sergiy Koretsky in a statement, denouncing Moscow’s campaign as “deliberate terror” against civilian sites.

The strikes targeted several gas compression and production plants across Ukraine, intensifying concerns about the country’s energy security ahead of winter. Since the start of the full-scale invasion in 2022, Russian forces have repeatedly attacked Ukraine’s energy sector, seeking to weaken its resilience and pressure its population.

Kyiv has called on its Western allies to accelerate the delivery of air defense systems, arguing that Russia’s escalating use of drones and missiles puts not only Ukraine’s energy network but also European energy security at risk.
