Ukraine War: Volodymyr Zelensky holds talks with Donald Trump
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky spoke with U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday, October 11, 2025, following one of the largest Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure since the start of the war. According to Andriy Yermak, head of Ukraine’s presidential administration, the conversation comes after an assault involving over 450 drones and 30 missiles, which killed a seven-year-old child and left hundreds of thousands of homes without power.
During a press conference in Kyiv on Friday, Zelensky urged Trump to “put pressure on Vladimir Putin” to halt Russian airstrikes. On Saturday, another Russian attack targeted energy systems, cutting electricity across parts of the Odessa region.
A Ukrainian delegation is expected to travel to the United States early next week to discuss possible sanctions, energy cooperation, and air defense support. The delegation will be led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko and the head of the presidential administration.
Zelensky also announced that the issue of frozen Russian assets will be discussed with U.S. officials. Since Russia’s invasion in 2022, Moscow has repeatedly targeted Ukraine’s power grid during the winter months, leaving millions without electricity or heating — actions that Kyiv denounces as war crimes. Russia denies targeting civilians, claiming that Ukrainian forces use energy facilities for military purposes.
