Tensions have emerged ahead of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations semifinal between Morocco and Cameroon, with the Cameroonian embassy in Morocco calling for greater transparency in the allocation of tickets to supporters of the Indomitable Lionesses.

The dispute centers on access to the match scheduled for Wednesday, August 12, at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat. The official CAF schedule confirms Rabat as the venue for the semifinal stage of the tournament.

In a letter dated August 10 and signed by Cameroon's ambassador to Morocco, Mouhamadou Youssifou, the diplomatic mission asked the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) to make its statutory allocation of tickets available to Cameroonian supporters.

Embassy requests 1,000 tickets

According to the letter, the embassy is seeking 1,000 tickets for supporters of the Cameroonian women's national team.

The requested allocation comprises 50 Category 1 tickets and 950 Category 3 tickets, with the cost to be covered by the Cameroonian embassy.

The diplomatic mission says it encountered difficulties purchasing tickets for the semifinal, unlike previous Cameroon matches at the tournament, for which tickets had reportedly been obtained without comparable obstacles.

The request was therefore addressed directly to the president of the FRMF, turning ticket availability into an issue involving not only supporters but also the diplomatic representatives of Cameroon.

A high-profile semifinal in Rabat

The dispute comes as Morocco prepares to face Cameroon on home soil in a decisive match for a place in the WAFCON final.

The 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations is being staged in Morocco, with the tournament featuring 16 national teams. The competition also serves as the African qualification route for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, with the semifinalists securing qualification.

That combination of sporting stakes and the presence of the host nation has generated significant interest around the semifinal, increasing pressure on the organizers to ensure that both sets of supporters can attend.

Reports from supporters also indicate that tickets for the Morocco-Cameroon semifinal have been difficult to obtain through official channels, with some fans reporting that availability appeared limited.

The embassy seeks equal treatment for Cameroonian fans

The Cameroonian diplomatic initiative is framed around the principle of equitable access.

By formally requesting a defined ticket allocation, the embassy is seeking to ensure that supporters travelling with or supporting the Indomitable Lionesses have a visible presence inside the stadium.

The request also reflects the importance of supporter access in major international tournaments, where ticket distribution can become particularly sensitive when a host nation is involved.

For the moment, the Cameroonian embassy's request puts the spotlight on the ticketing arrangements for one of the tournament's most anticipated fixtures. The question now is whether the requested allocation can be made available before kick-off.
