Walid Regragui aims for CAN 2025 glory

In a recent interview with the Spanish daily AS, Walid Regragui, head coach of Morocco’s national football team, shared his clear objective for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2025): winning the title. After leading Morocco to a historic semi-final in the 2022 FIFA World Cup the first time an African and Arab nation reached that stage Regragui now wants to direct that momentum towards conquering Africa.

Regragui emphasized that winning the CAN is now his top priority. "Morocco is a proud footballing nation. It’s not acceptable for us to have only one African title," he stated. For him, the World Cup success must be transformed into a continental triumph, showcasing Morocco's ability to shine not only on the global stage but also as a dominant force in Africa.

The coach also touched on Morocco’s inclusive approach to dual-nationality players. He praised the country’s respectful and passionate strategy, which invites players to be part of a national project built on identity and commitment. According to Regragui, the key lies in meaningful dialogue and letting players decide freely especially those with multicultural backgrounds who often face complex choices.

Regragui applauded players like Brahim Diaz, Bilal El Khannous, and Achraf Hakimi for choosing Morocco and contributing to the team’s growing international stature. He highlighted that identifying young talent across Europe is not only about heritage but also about a genuine dedication to the Moroccan cause.

Finally, Regragui underlined Morocco’s rapid football development from world-class infrastructure to co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup positioning the team among the world’s elite.
