World Bank launches innovation challenge to strengthen public financial oversight in Morocco

The World Bank has launched the GovTech Innovation Challenge 2026, inviting technology companies from around the world to develop innovative digital solutions that can improve public financial oversight and strengthen government accountability in Morocco.

Organized in partnership with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and Trust Valley, the initiative focuses on accelerating digital transformation within public institutions by encouraging collaboration between governments and the private technology sector.

Morocco is participating in the program through two dedicated innovation challenges designed to support the General Inspectorate of Finance and the Supreme Audit Institution. The selected projects will aim to enhance public auditing processes, improve financial governance, and increase transparency by using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, data analytics, automation, and cybersecurity.

The first challenge seeks solutions capable of improving audit planning and risk assessment. By leveraging big data and predictive analytics, participating companies are expected to develop tools that help inspectors identify high-risk areas and allocate oversight resources more efficiently.

The second challenge focuses on public procurement audits. Participants are encouraged to create intelligent systems that can analyze financial and administrative data, detect unusual patterns, identify potential risks, and accelerate audit procedures through AI-powered monitoring and analysis.

The competition is open to startups, scale-ups, and small and medium-sized technology companies specializing in digital innovation. Applications will remain open until August 21, 2026, giving innovators the opportunity to showcase practical solutions for real-world government challenges.

Beyond the competition itself, selected participants will receive technical mentoring, expert guidance, and the opportunity to develop and test pilot projects directly with Moroccan public institutions. They will also gain access to workshops, networking opportunities with international investors, and potential pathways for deploying successful technologies within Morocco and other countries facing similar governance challenges.

The initiative reflects the growing global adoption of GovTech, an approach that promotes the use of digital innovation to modernize public administration, improve government efficiency, and strengthen accountability. By integrating advanced technologies into public financial management, Morocco aims to reinforce transparency while supporting the country's broader digital transformation agenda.

For Moroccan technology companies, the program also represents an opportunity to gain international exposure, validate innovative solutions in a government environment, and build partnerships that could open doors to new regional and global markets.
