During a symbolic moment at a massive military parade in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin were caught on camera discussing the possibility of living forever.

The exchange took place as Xi, Putin, and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un walked side by side on a red carpet near Tiananmen Square. According to footage from Chinese state television CCTV, Xi remarked: “Today, at 70 years old, one is still a child. In the past, it was rare to reach that age, but now it is considered youthful.”

Putin responded through an interpreter: “With advances in biotechnology, human organs can be transplanted repeatedly, people may rejuvenate as they age, and perhaps even become immortal.” Xi added that some experts predict human lifespans could reach 150 years within this century.

Later confirming the conversation at a press conference, Putin said: “Modern methods of healthcare, surgery, and organ replacement could allow humanity to look forward to a longer and more active life, quite different from what we know today.”

Both leaders, aged 72, have been in power for more than a decade each. Neither has indicated plans to step down or designate a successor. Unlike his predecessors, Xi Jinping abolished presidential term limits in 2018, enabling him to extend his leadership indefinitely.
