Yemen: Ship hit by projectile off the coast
A vessel was struck by a projectile and caught fire off the coast of Yemen, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported on Monday, September 29. The incident occurred 128 nautical miles southeast of Aden, a key port city in southern Yemen.
The attack comes amid ongoing threats from Houthi rebels, who have repeatedly targeted commercial shipping in the Red Sea and surrounding waters in recent months. The exact nature of the projectile and the extent of the damage to the vessel are currently under investigation.
UKMTO, a British agency responsible for maritime security alerts, confirmed that military authorities reported the vessel was hit and set ablaze. There is no immediate information on casualties or the ship’s cargo. Shipping companies and international authorities have been urged to exercise caution in the area.
