Zelenskyy to meet Trump after Alaska summit briefing with Putin
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Washington on Monday to meet Donald Trump following a detailed briefing on the recent Alaska summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. This marks Zelenskyy’s first return to the White House since a tense confrontation with Trump in February.
During the hour-long call, Trump shared key points from his meeting with Putin. Zelenskyy expressed support for a potential trilateral summit including the leaders of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. While the exact details of the discussions remain undisclosed, Trump suggested possible territorial negotiations in Ukraine, a proposal Zelenskyy has consistently rejected.
European leaders, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, and Finland, joined follow-up calls to discuss security guarantees for Ukraine and ensure Europe’s involvement in any future agreements. The discussions also explored extending a NATO-style collective security guarantee for Ukraine, although U.S. commitments remain unclear.
Amid the diplomatic developments, fighting continues on the ground. In Kherson, three civilians were killed and 12 wounded, while Ukrainian forces reported advances in Donetsk, claiming significant Russian casualties. Both sides continue to launch drones and missiles, illustrating the ongoing intensity of the conflict.
The upcoming meetings aim to coordinate Western support, define security measures, and explore a pathway toward a broader peace agreement, while reaffirming Ukraine’s sovereignty and the inviolability of international borders.
