Zootopia 2 tops Disney animation box office records
Disney's Zootopia 2 has surpassed Frozen II to become the highest-grossing Walt Disney Animation Studios film ever, reaching $1.59 billion worldwide after six weeks in theaters.
The animated sequel earned $19 million over its first 2026 weekend, showing impressive longevity with just a 4% to 4.5% drop from the prior frame despite fewer screens. After 36 days, it amassed $363.7 million domestically and $1.23 billion internationally, including a standout $601.4 million from China alone.
This milestone displaces Frozen II, which held the record since 2019 with $1.453 billion globally. Zootopia 2 officially overtook its predecessor on December 31, 2025, crossing $1.46 billion, as reported by ABC7. It hit the billion-dollar mark in a record 17 days, the fastest for any PG-rated film.
The film's international haul proved exceptional, with China accounting for nearly half of overseas earnings. In its sixth weekend, it added about $62.7 million across 53 markets, down only 7.8%. This sustained momentum, extending well past holiday peaks, places it 12th on the all-time global box office chart.
Variety noted $19 million from 3,285 U.S. theaters that weekend. Released November 26, 2025, during Thanksgiving, Zootopia 2 launched with $556 million worldwide in five days $156 million domestic and $400 million international marking the fourth-biggest global opening ever and the largest for an animated feature.
