During Donald Trump’s recent address to Congress, Democratic Representative Al Green was ejected from the chamber after vocally challenging the president’s claim of having a mandate. The unprecedented removal was ordered by House Speaker Mike Johnson, marking a rare disciplinary action against a legislator during a presidential speech.

Green, 78, interrupted Trump by declaring, “You don’t have a mandate,” while shaking his walking cane. Republican Representative Nancy Mace quickly responded, telling him to sit down. As Republican lawmakers voiced their disapproval, Speaker Johnson directed the sergeant-at-arms to remove Green, citing the need to restore order.

The Texas congressman, a longtime critic of Trump who previously called for his impeachment, later defended his actions. He insisted that his protest was necessary to challenge potential cuts to Medicaid, a crucial healthcare program for low-income Americans. “It’s worth it to let people know that some of us will stand against this president,” Green stated.

His demonstration underscored the growing tension between Democrats and Republicans. While Democrats remained silent or held signs advocating for policies such as Medicaid protection and veteran support, some female legislators, including Nancy Pelosi, chose to wear pink as a subtle yet unified form of protest.
