Israeli airstrikes cause multiple deaths in Gaza including pregnant woman

Rescue teams in Gaza reported that Israeli airstrikes on Sunday killed eight people and injured several others across the Palestinian territory. According to civil defense spokesperson Mahmud Bassal, five people lost their lives when a home was targeted in Jabalia, located in northern Gaza. Additionally, two individuals, among them a pregnant woman, died in an attack on tents housing displaced families near Nuseirat in central Gaza. Another fatal strike occurred in Khan Yunis, the main city in the south, resulting in one death. The Israeli military has intensified its operations in Gaza recently, describing the actions as part of a renewed effort to dismantle Hamas. The military reported conducting over 100 strikes throughout Gaza in the past day alone. Since the ceasefire broke down on March 18, Gaza’s health ministry has documented at least 3,747 fatalities, mostly civilians, contributing to a total war death toll of 53,901. The conflict was initially triggered by Hamas’s October 2023 attack on Israel, which caused 1,218 deaths, mostly civilians, according to official figures compiled by AFP. Militants also took 251 hostages; 57 remain captive in Gaza, including 34 whom the Israeli military states are deceased.
