Strengthening Morocco-France Parliamentary Cooperation A Promising Step Forward
On Thursday, in Rabat, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch met with the President of the French National Assembly, Yaël Braun-Pivet, during her official visit to Morocco. The purpose of this visit was to bolster parliamentary cooperation mechanisms between the two nations.
During the meeting, both parties expressed their satisfaction with the long-standing and privileged relations between Morocco and France, which have been further strengthened by the signing of the "Enhanced Exceptional Partnership" declaration on October 28, 2024, by King Mohammed VI of Morocco and French President Emmanuel Macron. This agreement aims to enable both countries to better address the challenges they face, through enhanced collaboration in various sectors of bilateral, regional, and international cooperation.
Prime Minister Akhannouch specifically praised France's support for Morocco's sovereignty over its territorial integrity, particularly regarding the Sahara issue. He reiterated the importance of the French commitment to the autonomy initiative, a crucial element for resolving the artificial regional conflict. He also emphasized the significance of the strategic partnership between Morocco and France in Africa, aligned with the African Vision of King Mohammed VI.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted the value of consultation and coordination on parliamentary matters of mutual interest. The strengthening of the Morocco-France Parliamentary Friendship Group was also discussed as a key aspect of fostering closer relations.
The discussions were attended by key figures from the French National Assembly, including the Vice President, Naïma Moutchou, Secretary General Damien Chamussy, Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Bruno Fuchs, and the French Ambassador to Morocco, Christophe Lecourtier.
