Bourita: Lebanon Ceasefire Is A Positive Development That Must Be Respected

Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, has emphasized the importance of respecting and consolidating the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, calling it a “positive development” that is vital for the country's unity and territorial security. His remarks came on Tuesday during a joint press conference in Rabat with his Djiboutian counterpart, where he acknowledged ongoing international efforts to end the violence and attacks on Lebanese territory and citizens.

Despite the ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States and France last week, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have continued their military actions across Lebanon. On Monday, Israeli strikes resulted in at least nine deaths in southern Lebanon’s Nabatiyeh governorate. The attacks, including airstrikes on what the IOF described as a "terrorist" cell in Lebanon’s Bekaa region, led to casualties, with several civilians reported dead, including a journalist from Al-Nour Radio.

Bourita expressed concern over the violations of the ceasefire but reiterated Morocco’s commitment to Lebanon’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. “The Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, supports Lebanon’s territorial integrity,” Bourita stated, emphasizing that Lebanon’s stability is crucial for its national unity and the safety of its people.

Further, the Moroccan Foreign Minister underscored the importance of reinforcing Lebanese national institutions to ensure the security and safety of the population. He also referred to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for measures to bolster peace in the region, particularly in southern Lebanon.

On a broader regional scale, Bourita pointed out that resolving the Palestinian issue remains the key to securing long-term peace and stability in the Middle East. He reaffirmed Morocco’s stance that regional security could only be strengthened through a two-state solution, establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.

Morocco continues to advocate for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in the region, calling on all parties to adhere to ceasefire agreements and work toward lasting peace.
