Morocco advocates enduring cooperation for a resilient Africa

Amid growing global security and economic challenges, Morocco has reiterated its unwavering commitment to a unified, strong, and resilient Africa. Speaking at the Forum of Presidents of Foreign Affairs Committees of African Parliaments in Rabat, Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita emphasized Morocco’s Pan-African vision, rooted in optimism, solidarity, and concrete action. Rejecting all forms of opportunism, Morocco is advocating for sustainable partnerships among African nations based on mutual benefit and balanced cooperation.

Bourita firmly stated that Morocco’s foreign policy is grounded in the rejection of opportunism and self-proclaimed leaders who seek to undermine the sovereignty of African nations. In contrast to prevailing pessimism, Morocco remains steadfast in its belief in the continent’s potential. According to Bourita, while some focus solely on Africa’s obstacles, Morocco identifies abundant opportunities for growth and collaboration.

Addressing the forum, held under the theme “Towards establishing sustainable foundations for stability and security in Africa,” Bourita highlighted Morocco’s view of Africa not just as a neighboring region but as a shared space of belonging and fraternity. He underscored that the ties between Morocco and the continent are based on values of friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation, reflecting the Kingdom’s deep-rooted identity as part of Africa.

The minister outlined three core principles underpinning Morocco’s African policy: belonging, cooperation, and solidarity. He stressed that Morocco does not perceive Africa as a peripheral region but as an integral component of its identity and development. He further asserted that the continent’s stability is intrinsically tied to Morocco’s own stability, while its economic growth is mutually reinforcing.

Bourita also issued a strong denunciation of political opportunism, criticizing actors who seek to weaken African nations rather than strengthen them. Unlike those who adopt a short-term and pessimistic view, Morocco champions Africa’s capabilities and views challenges as opportunities for progress.

“Morocco actively supports African initiatives, even when they demand long-term commitment, whereas others opt for superficial and fleeting solutions,” he declared. He emphasized that Morocco’s actions in Africa are driven by a determined effort to translate Pan-Africanism into actionable strategies rather than leaving it as an empty slogan.

Citing the vision of King Mohammed VI, Bourita highlighted the importance of boldness, initiative, and responsibility in addressing Africa’s internal and external challenges. He noted that this proactive approach is critical to unlocking the continent’s potential and fostering sustainable development.

The forum, which brought together representatives from more than 40 African nations, reflects the momentum of transformation sweeping the continent. Bourita emphasized the pressing need for bold initiatives to unlock Africa’s potential and attract greater private investment.

In an era of rapid global change, where traditional diplomacy alone is insufficient, Bourita underscored the pivotal role of African parliaments. He characterized them as “idea laboratories” capable of generating innovative solutions and promoting a more integrated and resilient Africa.

Concluding his address, Bourita highlighted the forum’s significance as an official platform to anchor a shared, ambitious, and sovereign African identity. “Following the inaugural edition in 2023, this second meeting represents a critical step in consolidating the continent’s strategic choices,” he remarked.
