Mysterious deaths of three Moroccan-American women at Belize resort spark investigation

The unexpected deaths of three young Moroccan-American women at a resort in Belize have left their families heartbroken and searching for answers, as authorities continue their investigation into the cause of the tragedy.

The bodies of Kawtar Naqad (23), Iman Mellah (24), and Wafa Alarar (26) were discovered on Sunday at the Royal Kahal Resort on Coconut Drive in San Pedro. Born in Morocco and holding U.S. citizenship, the three women had been staying at the resort for several days.

Resort staff found the lifeless women in different parts of their hotel room. One was lying on a bed, covered, with yellowish foam around her mouth. Another was found face-down near the bathroom, while the third lay near the dining table. A forensic team conducted an initial examination, and toxicology experts are expected to carry out further tests to determine what caused their deaths.

Authorities reported no signs of forced entry or physical injuries on the bodies, leading to speculation about the circumstances. San Pedro officials suggested a possible drug overdose, but other reports raised concerns about carbon monoxide poisoning or a gas leak. Local media echoed these concerns, though no official confirmation has been made.

The Moroccan Embassy in Mexico confirmed the deaths and assured the families of its full support, working closely with Mexican and Belizean authorities.

The families, devastated by the tragedy, have urged the public to refrain from spreading rumors and to respect their grief. Fundraising campaigns have been launched to facilitate the repatriation of the women’s bodies to Morocco.

As investigations continue, the families await definitive answers to the questions surrounding this heartbreaking incident, holding out hope for clarity and closure.
