Strengthening Morocco's Economic Ties with Central America at Expocomer 2025

A high-level Moroccan delegation participated for the first time in EXPOCOMER 2025, a major commercial event for Central America and the Caribbean, held in Panama City from March 25 to 27. The event brought together over 800 exhibitors from 30 countries, focusing on strengthening economic relations between Morocco and the region, particularly in logistics, agribusiness, and technology.

At the opening ceremony, Morocco’s Ambassador to Panama, Bouchra Boudchiche, emphasized the collaboration potential between the two countries, which share a geostrategic position and advanced logistical infrastructures. The Moroccan delegation also held bilateral meetings with the Panamanian government to explore ways to boost trade, especially in agrifood, textiles, and technology, which were key sectors of EXPOCOMER.

In addition, they met with private sector representatives, including the Panamanian Businessmen’s Association and ProPanama, an investment promotion organization. Discussions highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange and attracting mutual investments.

Ghassane El Machrafi, General Director of the Moroccan Agency for Logistics Development, remarked that “Panama could serve as Morocco’s gateway to Central America, while Morocco offers unique logistical advantages to Africa and Europe.”

EXPOCOMER attracts over 15,000 professional visitors annually from the region. The event included a dinner with local entrepreneurs and authorities, reinforcing cultural ties and opening doors for concrete projects, such as the future participation of Moroccan companies in the Colon Free Zone, the region’s largest commercial hub. These efforts aim to diversify alliances amid growing global competition in sectors such as agri-exports and renewable energy.
