UIR wins two medals at the Geneva International Invention Exhibition
The International University of Rabat (UIR) achieved a remarkable feat by winning two medals, including one gold, at the 50th Geneva International Invention Exhibition, held from April 9 to 13.
Asmae Berrada was awarded the gold medal, with special congratulations from the international jury, marking a first for UIR, for her project "Hybrid Gravitational Energy Storage" (HyGES). This innovative energy storage system combines pulley gravity and hydraulic mechanisms, offering a reliable, modular, and cost-effective solution for electricity storage.
Meanwhile, inventors Ahmed Zouggar and Maouéna Fongbedji earned the silver medal for their "FootStep Guard" project. This intelligent orthopedic prosthesis features a vibrating alert system that warns the user when their foot is about to make contact with the ground. Designed for safer and more comfortable post-surgery rehabilitation, this innovation promises enhanced recovery.
Mr. Mohsine Bouya, Director of UIR's Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, praised the inventors for their exceptional talent and contribution to Morocco's excellence on the global stage. He emphasized that this double success is a testament to UIR’s commitment to research and innovation, with 650 patents making it Africa's leading university in this field, as well as its dedication to developing high-impact technological solutions.
Additionally, UIR continues to hold its position as Africa’s leader in patents, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), further cementing its reputation.
The exhibition, a major event for innovation enthusiasts, brought together exhibitors from over 40 countries and regions, showcasing the technologies of tomorrow. This special edition presented nearly 1,050 inventions from global participants.
