Wydad plans major squad overhaul with 21 player exits
Wydad Athletic Club has announced plans to offload 21 players in a significant squad reshuffle ahead of the 2025–26 season. This decision follows a disappointing campaign that saw the team finish third in the Botola Pro and endure an early exit from the FIFA Club World Cup after losing all three matches against Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain.
Key departures
Head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem has finalized a list of players set to leave the club, which includes prominent figures such as goalkeeper Youssef El Moutie, defenders Aymane Dairani, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Jamal Harkass, Nabil Marmouk, and Fahd Moufi.
Midfielders and forwards on the departure list include Ismail Moutaraji, Pedrinho, Arthur Wenderroscky, Mehdi Moubarik, Stéphane Aziz Ki, Saifeddine Bouhra, and Walid Nassi. Additionally, younger and fringe players such as Ayoub Marsa, Rayhi, Ghilane, and Obang will also leave the squad.
Aiming for a fresh start
The bold move is part of Wydad's strategy to rebuild the team and reclaim dominance in Moroccan and African football. Club officials and coaching staff aim to address long-standing issues of tactical inconsistency and squad depth, focusing on assembling a more competitive and balanced roster.
The restructuring is viewed as a critical step toward achieving success in both local and international competitions in the coming season.
