Advocating for AI localization in Arab countries
On Sunday, during the opening of the Arab Dialogue Circle at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo, the President of the Arab Parliament, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Yamahi, emphasized the critical need to localize the artificial intelligence (AI) industry within Arab countries. He called for the development of comprehensive plans and the allocation of necessary financial and human resources to keep up with the rapid global race in this field. Furthermore, Al Yamahi highlighted the importance of ensuring the safe and ethical use of AI, in line with the cultural values and societal norms of Arab nations.
The event, held under the theme "Artificial Intelligence in the Arab World: Innovative Applications and Ethical Challenges," was co-organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, and the Naif Arab University for Security Sciences. It brought together key diplomatic figures, academics, and experts in the field to discuss the potential of AI in the Arab world.
