Morocco's tourism surge breaks records with 1.2 million January visitors
Morocco's tourism sector has achieved an unprecedented milestone, welcoming 1.2 million tourists in January 2025, marking a 27% increase compared to the previous year. This surge represents an additional 272,000 visitors from January 2024's figures.
The tourism ministry highlighted this achievement as evidence of Morocco's growing appeal as a prime destination. The record-breaking numbers reflect the success of recent nationwide initiatives and campaigns designed to enhance Morocco's presence in the global tourism market.
Tourism Minister Farim Zahra Ammor emphasized that these figures establish Morocco as a "true four-season destination." The minister noted that this positive trend aligns with a "major qualitative goal" outlined in the country's tourism roadmap.
The growth builds upon strong performance in 2024, during which Morocco hosted 17.4 million visitors, representing a 20% increase from 2023. The country's tourism sector generated substantial revenues of $11.1 billion last year, showing a 7.5% growth compared to the previous year.
Looking ahead, Morocco has set an ambitious target of attracting 26 million tourists by 2030. This goal appears increasingly attainable as the country prepares to host two major sporting events: the Africa Cup of Nations later this year and the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-organize.
The success was further bolstered by a significant influx of Moroccans residing abroad, who returned to the country in record numbers during the summer season, contributing to the overall tourism growth.
