Dounia Batma released from prison after serving sentence in “Hamza Mon Bb” case

Moroccan singer Dounia Batma was released from Oudaia Prison in Marrakech early this morning after completing a one-year sentence for her involvement in the high-profile “Hamza Mon Bb” case. The release, which took place at 6 a.m., was carried out discreetly to avoid media attention, according to reports from Moroccan news outlet Le30.

Batma was arrested in January last year following an order from the attorney general at the Marrakech Court of Appeal, enforcing a 2021 verdict that had sentenced her to one year in prison. The singer, a mother of two, had previously made a public appeal for a royal pardon, tearfully claiming to be the victim of a conspiracy aimed at derailing her career. She also alleged that her ex-husband, Mohamed Turk, was involved in orchestrating the plot against her.

The “Hamza Mon Bb” case, which has garnered widespread attention both locally and internationally since 2018, centers around social media accounts on Instagram and Snapchat. These accounts were notorious for sharing private and often compromising photos, videos, and content designed to violate individuals’ privacy, including targeting public figures and celebrities.

Batma, along with her sister Ibtissam, faced charges related to unauthorized access to personal data and the dissemination of private conversations and images without consent. Ibtissam Batma also served a one-year prison sentence for her involvement in the case.

The case’s notoriety stems from its sensational nature, with its content sparking debates on privacy laws and cyber harassment in Morocco. Despite her legal troubles, Dounia Batma remains one of the most talked-about figures in the country’s entertainment industry.
