Amina Bouayach, President of Morocco’s National Human Rights Council (CNDH), has been honored on Pour Elle’s 2025 list of “50 Inspiring African Women.” The recognition highlights her unwavering dedication to defending human rights, equality, and social justice throughout her career.

Pour Elle celebrates African women driving change

The African media platform Pour Elle, which focuses on issues affecting women and girls across the continent, released its list in celebration of International African Women’s Day 2025. The honorees include women from 20 African countries and diaspora communities who are shaping a more inclusive and equitable future.

This year’s theme, “African Women Active in Achieving Justice and Reparations for an Inclusive Africa,” celebrates achievements across politics, business, activism, culture, and society. Bouayach is one of ten activists recognized for their significant contributions to justice and social progress.

Bouayach’s impact and achievements

As one of Africa’s leading human rights advocates, Bouayach has played a pivotal role in promoting human dignity and fundamental freedoms on national, regional, and international stages.

In 2025, Bouayach received numerous accolades for her work. In March, she was unanimously elected as President of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), solidifying her influence in the global human rights community. She also received the prestigious Mediterranean Foundation Award for her contributions to advancing human rights in Morocco and beyond.

His Majesty King Mohammed VI reaffirmed her leadership by reappointing her as president of Morocco’s CNDH earlier this year, a role she has held since December 2018.

Bouayach’s inclusion in Pour Elle’s list is the latest testament to her enduring legacy and her prominent role within the network of African women leaders.
