Angola and India have agreed to deepen their bilateral relations by expanding cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, technology, energy, and defense, marking a new stage in their economic partnership.

The announcement followed the historic first state visit of Indian President Droupadi Murmu to Angola, where she met with President Joao Lourenço in the capital, Luanda. During a joint press conference, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen ties based on mutual trust and shared development goals.

President Murmu emphasized Angola’s importance to India’s energy security, noting that both nations are ready to broaden cooperation within the India-Africa Forum Summit framework. She also praised Angola’s recent decision to join the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) and the Global Biofuels Alliance (GBA) — two initiatives led by India to promote environmental conservation and sustainable energy.

For his part, President Lourenço highlighted the strategic potential of collaboration in health, aerospace, and defense systems, expressing confidence that India’s technological expertise could significantly support Angola’s modernization efforts.

Several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) were signed during the visit, covering fisheries, aquaculture, marine resources, and consular cooperation, with both governments calling for their swift implementation.

President Murmu’s African tour will continue in Botswana, as India seeks to reinforce its long-term partnerships across the continent.
