Boeing strengthens aerospace ties with Morocco through new partnership

American aerospace leader Boeing is solidifying its relationship with Morocco's aviation sector at the 55th International Paris Air Show, taking place from June 16 to 22. This partnership highlights Boeing's commitment to enhancing its global supply chain while supporting the burgeoning aerospace industry in Morocco.

Figeac Aero, a French aeronautical subcontracting firm known for manufacturing metal components, has announced a collaboration with Boeing to produce aluminum machined parts for the 737 MAX at its Casablanca Aéronautique facility. This location, employing around 900 individuals, represents one of Figeac Aero's largest production sites, providing a range of industrial services including machining, sheet metal work, and assembly. This agreement underscores Figeac Aero’s strategy to maintain a global presence while bolstering local operations.

Jean-Claude Maillard, Chairman and CEO of Figeac Aero, emphasized that this development reflects the company's confidence in achieving its business objectives. The partnership aligns with Figeac Aero’s “PILOT 28” strategic plan, which prioritizes North America and its customers as essential components for future success.

Morocco is positioning itself as a significant player in the global aerospace market, with approximately 150 companies operating within its borders and generating an impressive €2.5 billion in annual revenue. This growth trajectory is reflected in recent remarks by Wouter Van Wersch, Airbus's International Executive Vice President, who noted Morocco's critical role in the aviation sector's expansion.

Boeing's engagement in Morocco extends back several years, with a framework agreement established in 2016 to promote local capacity and encourage suppliers to set up operations in the country. This initiative has facilitated job creation and attracted numerous stakeholders to Morocco's aerospace ecosystem.

Emily Belgrade, Vice President of Global Supply Chain at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, remarked that this partnership exemplifies Boeing’s dedication to developing a robust aerospace ecosystem in Morocco and fostering enduring relationships with the local industry.

At the Paris Air Show, the Moroccan delegation, led by Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour, oversaw the signing of various strategic agreements aimed at attracting advanced investments and reinforcing the country’s industrial framework. These agreements include a Memorandum of Understanding with Genser Aerospace for a versatile business aircraft and an expansion agreement with LPF for critical aircraft engine components.

The Moroccan delegation also held discussions with Airbus to enhance their strategic partnership and expand the manufacturer’s industrial footprint in the region. Airbus remains a pivotal element of Morocco’s aeronautical sector, constituting nearly 60% of the industry.

These agreements not only fortify Morocco’s position in the global aerospace landscape but also illustrate its appeal to international investors in this high-tech domain.
