Chefchaouen — The new governor of the province of Chefchaouen, Zakaria Hachlaf, officially took office on Fridayduring a ceremony presided over by Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water. His Majesty King Mohammed VI had previously appointed Mr. Hachlaf to this strategic position.

Following the reading of the royal Dahir of appointment, Minister Baraka congratulated the new governor and highlighted his diverse professional background, marked by extensive experience in both public administration and the private sector. According to the minister, these qualifications represent a genuine asset for the province’s development, which enjoys the special attention of the Monarch.

Baraka emphasized the importance of continuing integrated territorial development programs and supporting the implementation of ambitious economic and social projects. Chefchaouen, known for its natural and touristic potential, holds major advantages for attracting investment — the main driver of sustainable growth.

Among the key priorities outlined were the strengthening of basic infrastructure, the fight against geographic isolation, the implementation of the new Investment Charter, and the development of innovative solutions to address challenges linked to water scarcity and the effects of recurrent droughts.

The minister also stressed the importance of local governance and the central role of local authorities in listening to citizens, responding to their needs, and ensuring the rule of law. Mr. Hachlaf is expected to promote economic and social development, encourage investment, and enhance local assets.

The ceremony was attended by Younes Tazi, Wali of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, along with military, security, and judicial officials, local representatives, members of professional chambers, and civil society organizations. Baraka also took the opportunity to commend the outgoing governor, Mohamed Alami Ouaddane, recently appointed to Zagora Province, reaffirming Morocco’s commitment to sustainable and equitable territorial development.
