Digital sovereignty as an economic, strategic and political priority
Digital sovereignty has become an essential economic, strategic, and political requirement, serving national competitiveness, independence, and the trust of citizens, investors, and international partners, declared Nadia Fettah, Morocco’s Minister of Economy and Finance, during a regional seminar on cybersecurity held in Rabat.
The event, organized by the Directorate General for Information Systems Security (DGSSI) in collaboration with regional and international organizations, highlighted the kingdom’s priorities in the digital field. Fettah underlined the importance of including small and medium-sized enterprises in digital opportunities, supporting local innovation through startups and fintech companies, and promoting green digital infrastructure.
She also stressed the need to invest in human capital, particularly in cybersecurity expertise, artificial intelligence, and data science.
Presenting the achievements of her ministry, Fettah pointed to the establishment of a solid governance framework for information systems security and the creation in 2025 of a Directorate dedicated to information security governance. This, she explained, reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening digital risk management and building trust in public digital services.
Finally, the minister emphasized the importance of reinforced international cooperation, noting that no country can face the challenges of a borderless cyberspace alone. She called for greater exchange of best practices, stronger solidarity in fighting cybercrime, and mutual support in developing advanced digital skills.
