Elon Musk's xAI acquires X, signaling a transformative merger
In a landmark move, Elon Musk has announced that xAI has fully acquired the social media platform X in an all-stock transaction. This acquisition values xAI at $80 billion and X at $33 billion, indicating a robust market reception.
Musk emphasized that the future of both platforms is "closely linked," aiming to harness a synergy of data, models, computation, distribution, and talent. The merger seeks to unlock immense potential by combining xAI's advanced artificial intelligence capabilities with the extensive reach of X.
Previously, Musk acquired X—formerly known as Twitter—for $44 billion in October 2022. Under his leadership, the platform underwent significant changes, including revamped features, the reinstatement of previously banned accounts, and an emphasis on free speech.
This acquisition is poised to enhance visibility for Grok, a chatbot developed by xAI that has emerged as a major competitor to OpenAI's ChatGPT. Musk stated that the merger would create "smarter and more meaningful experiences for billions of people," while remaining committed to the core mission of seeking truth and advancing knowledge.
