Fes Airport: Political official arrested over suspected international drug trafficking
Fes, Morocco — Security forces at Fes–Saïs Airport arrested Youssef Mourad, the regional secretary of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) for Fes-Meknes, upon his arrival from Málaga, Spain, on Saturday.
According to security sources, Mourad was wanted under a judicial warrant issued as part of an investigation into an international drug trafficking network.
The politician, who had been abroad for several weeks, was taken into custody by the Regional Judicial Police Brigade (BRPJ) in Fes, where he spent his first night under interrogation. He is expected to appear before the public prosecutor in the coming days.
The case reportedly dates back to last year, when the BRPJ dismantled a criminal network involved in exporting drugs abroad, forging official documents, and facilitating drug use. Investigators believe Mourad may have played a role in coordinating or financing some of these illicit activities.
Authorities have not yet commented publicly on the extent of his alleged involvement, but the arrest has sparked significant political and media attention in Morocco, given Mourad’s position within one of the country’s leading political parties.
