France’s Mbappé hospitalised due to gastroenteritis ahead of Club World Cup match
Real Madrid confirmed that French forward Kylian Mbappe has been admitted to hospital after suffering from a severe case of gastroenteritis. The club stated that he is undergoing medical tests and receiving proper treatment.
Mbappe was absent from Real Madrid’s opening match in the Club World Cup against Al-Hilal, which ended in a 1-1 draw. It marked Xabi Alonso’s first match in charge of the team. Ahead of the game, Alonso noted that the 26-year-old striker had been feeling slightly better.
In Mbappe’s absence, 21-year-old Gonzalo Garcia from Real Madrid’s B team took his place and managed to score the opening goal against the Saudi side.
Madrid’s next Group H match is scheduled for Sunday, June 22, against Mexican team Pachuca in Charlotte.
Despite scoring 31 goals in La Liga and earning the European Golden Shoe in his debut season with Real Madrid, Mbappe's efforts were not enough to secure a major trophy for the club.
