Italia Marittima launches new shipping route between Morocco and Spain
Italia Marittima, a subsidiary of Evergreen, has launched a new commercial shipping route connecting Morocco and Spain, enhancing trade links between the two countries. The route will now operate on a four-week rotation instead of the previous three-week cycle, with weekly departures maintained.
The new service is part of a joint initiative between two shipping companies under the North Africa (NAFR) service, integrated into X-Press Feeders’ SPX 1 loop connecting Spain and Portugal. The route now includes key Moroccan ports, Tanger Med and Casablanca, in its rotation.
To support the expanded schedule, X-Press has added a fourth vessel and increased port calls, notably in Casablanca, Barcelona, and Valencia. Alphaliner reported that these additional stops extend the rotation from three to four weeks. The fourth vessel, Carla, a 750 TEU cargo ship, began service on November 29 departing from Barcelona to maintain weekly departures on SPX 1.
Evergreen joined the new NAFR rotation with the departure of the 660 TEU vessel Perseus operated by X-Press from Valencia on November 22. SPX 1 now includes additional stops in Casablanca, and double calls in Barcelona and Valencia to integrate Morocco effectively into the route.
The updated four-week rotation now encompasses four vessels calling at the following ports: Barcelona, Valencia, Casablanca, Algeciras, Tanger Med, Lisbon, Vigo, and Leixões, with some ports served multiple times during the rotation.
