Kenitra investigates food poisoning case involving foreign diplomat
Local authorities in the Moroccan city of Kenitra have launched a multi-agency investigation following a case of food poisoning affecting a foreign diplomat.
According to available information, the diplomat had consumed meals at two separate dining establishments—one in Kenitra and another in Mehdia—before experiencing symptoms consistent with food poisoning. The incident was formally reported via email.
Upon receiving the alert, a provincial commission composed of health and food safety officials was immediately dispatched to both sites. Investigations focused on meal preparation conditions, hygiene levels, and the health status of staff who handle food.
Food samples and drinking water were collected and sent for detailed bacteriological analysis to the National Institute of Hygiene (INH) and Kenitra’s regional laboratory.
As part of the operation, certain food items deemed unfit for consumption were confiscated and destroyed. While these infractions were addressed, the overall hygiene conditions in the establishments under investigation were reported as satisfactory by the commission.
The case underscores the importance of strict food safety protocols, particularly in establishments serving diverse clientele, including diplomatic personnel.
