A 4.5-magnitude earthquake was recorded early Wednesday morning in the commune of Aghbar, located in Morocco’s Al Haouz province, about 81 kilometers south of Marrakech.

According to the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the earthquake’s epicenter was 12 kilometers deep and approximately 48 kilometers southwest of the Oukaïmeden station.

The tremor, which occurred at 4:25 a.m. local time (3:25 GMT), was felt by residents in Marrakech, Ourika, and Tahannaout. Reports indicate that vibrations were also felt as far as Agadir and Casablanca.

No damage or injuries have been reported so far. Local authorities remain on alert and are closely monitoring the situation. This new seismic episode has revived concerns in a region of the Atlas Mountains regularly exposed to earthquakes, still remembering the deadly September 2023 quake.
