Major Drug Seizure: Spanish Police Uncover Massive Underground Cocaine Cache Near Seville
Spanish authorities have uncovered one of the largest drug trafficking operations in the country's history, seizing seven tons of cocaine from an elaborate underground storage facility near Seville. The operation, which began on Friday, led to the arrest of three suspects and the discovery of multiple weapons.
The investigation was triggered when surveillance teams spotted two suspicious narco-boats entering the Guadalquivir River. Following the vessels' movements, authorities traced the cargo to a fortified farm in Coria del Río, located approximately nine miles south of Seville.
Upon searching the property, investigators made a startling discovery: two shipping containers had been buried underground, serving as a sophisticated storage system for both drugs and weapons. Among the arsenal recovered were an AK-47 assault rifle and two additional long firearms. The search also yielded two stolen vehicles.
The operation marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in southern Spain. Officials noted that this represents the largest cocaine seizure ever recorded in the southern peninsula, delivering a substantial blow to criminal networks operating along the Guadalquivir River region.
This discovery highlights the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by drug trafficking organizations in southern Spain, particularly their use of waterways and elaborate concealment techniques to move and store illegal substances.
